What is This?
21 Apr 2025
So. I started a blog.
This is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I find often in life that I have significantly more things that I want to say, than opportunities to actually say those things, and so I've often searched for ways in which I could say those things in a place where I know that theoretically, someone who I directed to could hear them. I've considered and tried quite a few things before this, ranging from making YouTube videos to writing novels to starting a podcast. Actually, I'm still doing one of those three things right now. But ultimately I'm a writer at heart, and I find myself most comfortable when I'm writing things. And in any case, being a computer science major is a really good excuse to program a website from scratch, buy a domain, and host my own blog. Not that it was cheap, in both time and money spent.
I suppose this is a good opportunity to explain what this will be all about. The writing section, I assume is self-evident. Blogging, however, is a bit of a lost art. Not many people do these things anymore, and not many people read these things, either. But basically, I'm going to use this space I've given myself to write once a week about... more or less anything I'm interested in at the time. You'll see anything from things that've been on my mind, to reviews of things I've been reading or playing, or just me talking about the art and craft of writing. And perhaps, some of the stuff I write about will be interesting enough that someone will be bothered to read it.
Here's a question I suspect that I'll recieve at some point or another (mostly because it's a question i ask myself). Why? Why do all this? The answer is pretty simple; I think it's quite fun. I enjoy writing, I enjoy front-end programming, I enjoy the idea of having a website and running a blog and putting all of my (public) writing in one place. I also enjoy the idea of starting a mailing list, and maintaining a Discord server for people who want to talk about the stuff I write. To that extent, I'm quite passionate about these things, the same way that another person is passionate about playing video games, or social activism, or making instagram posts.
On that topic, I suggest that, assuming the mailing list and the Discord server link works, to subscribe and join respectively if you find my writing interesting. It's quite easy to forget about these kinds of things, and having some way to remind yourself will help a lot. They say that the reason religion was so successful was because you did it consistently once a week; I have a lot to say about both religion and consistency, but for now I'll just leave it by saying that if this interests you, you might want to have that weekly reminder.
So, I don't know who'll read this. I don't know if this will be read at all, actually. And certainly, I'm not sure whether anyone who reads this will be sticking around for more. But here I am, and here I'll stay, at least for now. Starting from this Sunday, I'll be updating this site once a week, every week, hopefully. And maybe some of you will find that interesting enough to follow this journey with me.
Anyway, for the first weekly blog post, I'll be writing about goals, motivation, consistency, and how I plan to become a professional author for a living. If that interests you, I'll see you on the 27th!
